The next time Slasher checks the fridge and goes to get some celery, he is going to ask why all the stalks are pulled apart and then stuffed back in the bag.
Good question.
Today, my "lunch" came with an extra aerobic workout.....of jumping and running around the kitchen screaming at the big spider that was hiding in the celery when I pulled off a few stalks to go with my tuna salad.
I HATE spiders.
But......Tis ok now....I sent him (the spider...not Slasher) to the showers (sink...drain...tap on....buh bye).
Then I carefully pulled all the other stalks apart in case he had any buddies with him on this roadie. *shudder*
Show us what you want, but can't have.
*sigh*
You can have anything you want....as long as it doesn't break man's laws or god's laws or involves changing the will of someone's feelings.
Just because it takes work, faith, creativity, and/or time......and doesn't get handed to you on a silver platter......does not mean getting what you want is not possible. And if you aren't willing to go out and do what it takes to get what you say you really want......then I guess you don't really want it that bad.
Stop bitching, moaning, and coveting.....and go get what you want out of life and start living the life you want to live.
Vox Hunt and Qotd....these constant assinine and lame-ass questions are getting really annoying. Is someone really being paid to come up with this crap? If so, I think its time to re-assess.
The mistake I've made in the past is not realizing how constant a struggle it really is not to turn to food for comfort. It comes down to another question Bob asked me years ago: " How much do you love you yourself?"
"Of course I love myself", I'd snapped. "It's the first law of self-preservation. I firmly believe in it. "
"You may believe it, but you don't practice it, " he said. "Otherwise you couldn't let yourself be two hundred and thirty-seven pounds."
I wanted to cry, and later I did. He was so right. I cared more about everyone else's feelings than my own. I'd overextend myself to do anything anyone asked, to honour his or her feelings. I didn't want anyone to think I wasn't "nice" or worse "the money has gone to her head."
This, too, I know for sure: Loving yourself means honouring yourself and your own feelings first. When I was 237 pounds, I didn't even know what I felt. It was like living behind a veil of fat.
excerpt from the FORWARD by Oprah Winfrey for Bob Green's book The Best Life Diet.
Acknowledged truth must be applied truth in order for it to bless your life.
Paul Tsika
I know you guys already know this and this isn't news.
Working out and getting in shape is hard enough.....but with nature throwing in that monthly whammy for women, guys, you should not be complaining much about how hard your workouts are. Try having extra muscle cramping, bloating, fatigue, and sometimes nausea for about 1.5 weeks out of EVERY month on top of all the other stuff. (for some women this can be 2 weeks...which would make it occuring 50% of the time) As well, the sudden loss of iron also means we have less energy during this time, regardless of how well we can try to "gut" it out.
The muscle cramping is the worst. I don't know how bad other women get it but I get bad cramps that extend beyond my abdomen to include all the way down my legs, especially my thighs (front and back). And for the record, guys, if you have ever played Squash and ended up with "squash-butt"....that is the closest thing I can equate for you as to how it feels to have monthly cramps, although cramps can be much worse. (and if you have ever had "squash-butt", you know that ain't fun)
Getting the motivation to get up off your ass to workout is hard most some days.....but is just torture during those 1.5-2 weeks per month when you would rather just stay curled up under the covers in an advil-induced stupor.
I have forced myself, the last 2 days, to get up and out for some treks to get some exercise and burn some calories. It just sucks because I don't have the same energy that I normally do and my muscles are extra tight and sore.
Today, I was going to go for a trek across the bridge and up the hill to the bookstore (need something new to read) but I am not sure now. From the trek, I would burn around 600 calories....but I just might just forgo that and just go down to the gym to stretch, do a few weights, and just whine a lot. Hmmmm.....decisions, decisions......

I have seen so many people asking what is up....so I am taking a poll.
And to put the first poll into context, it would be nice to have a ballpark idea of people's Voxing habits.
Thanks everyone! I hope this sheds a little light.
Continuing on from part 1, part 2, part 3, and part 4 here is the addon list to the list of 48 movies that I made of some of my favourite sweet, romantic movies as a way to countdown to Vday to share the spirit of love vs the commercialism usually associated with Vday.
These addons were thought of after I made my original list of 48. One of the addon movies I watched this week which explains the late addition. This final list of 16 (in alphabetical order) makes my master list come to a total of 64 movies. I know there are more I like but 64 is a lot for now. I also know this list will grow as I watch more movies and there are several, I know are coming out on DVD and also coming to theatres, that looking promising to go on this list of sweet, romantic movies!
Thanks for letting me share my list with you all and hopefully it helps some people discover some new movies to check out! :)
The addons:
Across The Universe (2007) – Jim Sturgess, Evan Rachel Wood
I just saw this one this week…..and OMG, what a great movie with such an amazing soundtrack of 30 Beatle’s song covers that are used, for a large portion of the movie, instead of dialogue. If you don’t like Beatle’s songs, you might not like this although the songs are positioned to tell so much of the great story. If you do like Beatle’s songs, you will be in nirvana. Lots of lesser known songs are used in addition to some of the more well known songs. What can I say….ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE!!! :) Lots of interesting cameos, too!
The American President (1995) – Michael Douglas, Annette Bening
Just like in Notting Hill, falling love while in the spotlight is not easy task….and being the President of the United States means even more public scrutiny. Andrew is a widower President who ends up falling in love with environmental lobbyist Sydney but both their jobs do not make things easy on their relationship which is being closely watched, whether they like it or not. Balancing being a world leader with the regular guy wooing a girl is tough. Some choices we make, we have to make for the right reasons. His speech to the press near the end…..totally rocks!
Blast From the Past (1999) – Alicia Silverstone, Brendan Fraser
Due to cold war paranoia in the 60’s and mistaking a plane crash for a bomb, Adam’s father locks his family in a large bomb shelter he built in their backyard. Adam is born while they are inside the bomb shelter and spends the first 30 years of his life growing up in the bomb shelter. When he emerges at age 30, he doesn’t know anything of current world and still has the innocence and charm of the 1950’s and 1960’s from which his parents raised him. Adam meets Eve who is cynical and hard-hearted. Eve thinks Adam is too good to be true and a total freak……that is until she falls in love with him!
Bridget Jones Diary (2001) / Bridge Jones The Edge of Reason (2004) – Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth
When Bridget decides to take control of her life, she decides to chronicle it in a diary. Not exactly the smoothest girl around, she does manage to get herself into many situations, good and bad. Then she meets Marc Darcy (Colin Firth….with a poke at P&P) who she judges too quickly and too harshly. Lots of funny and sweet moments. Love it when Mark (Colin Firth) and Daniel (Hugh Grant) are duking it out in both films…like girls! And on The Edge of Reason DVD, look under special features for a clip of Bridget Jones interviewing Colin Firth as himself…….way too hilarious!
Connie and Carla (2004) – Nia Vardalos, Toni Collette
In a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Carla and Connie ended up having to hide out after witnessing a murder. They end up hiding out at a gay cabaret club and pretending to be transvestites. Unfortunately Connie starts falling in love with the straight brother of one of her friends…..but he thinks she is a guy dressed as a woman and she can’t break cover. A bit “As You Like It”. Funny and sweet.
Gigi (1958) – Leslie Caron, Louis Joudan
Don’t ask me how I managed to forget this one. Another one of my all-time favourites. Gigi is an illegitimate daughter of an actress, in Paris of the 1800’s, who is raised by her grandmother to be a courtesan. Unfortunately, she falls in love with a wealthy bachelor who has known her since she was a child….and while her grandmother wants her to be his mistress, she wants to be his wife. Leslie Caron is wonderful….and Louis Jourdan is dashing!
Green Card (1990) – Gerard Depardieu, Andie MacDowell
George, a french musician, needs a green card to stay in America. Bronte desires to live in an amazing exclusive apartment building and to gain the approval of the acceptance committee she has told them she is married when she is not……and now she has to come with a husband to show them. Both George and Bronte need each other and enter into a marriage of convenience. They are both very different and have a hard time adjusting to each other. And only when US Immigration decides to investigate, if their marriage is real or not, do they realize how they really feel about each other.
Jerry Maguire (1997) – Tom Cruise, Renee Zellweger
Say what you will about Tom Cruise….and if you don’t, I will…he is annoying as hell…but this movie is good. Joke what you will about “you complete me” and “ you had me at hello”….but who doesn’t desire that kind of passion and devotion? I love the little guy, Ray.
Ladyhawke (1985) – Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfieffer
Lovers cursed, by a bitter and evil bishop, to spend eternity close-by but apart. She, a hawk by day…and he, a wolf by night. At sunset and sunrise they change, seeing but never being able to touch. It is up to Gaston, a petty little thief, to help them undo the curse before its too late.
Last of the Mohicans (1992) – Daniel Day Lewis, Madeleine Stowe
An amazing epic movie where a white man, who is an adopted son of the Mohicans, falls in love with daughter of an English officer while war among the Mohicans and Hurons rages on. Fabulous movie. It’s been a while since I have seen this and I should watch it again, soon.
The Man From Snowy River (1982) / Return to Snowy River (1988) – Tom Burlinson, Sigrid Thornton
Another one of my favourite from growing up. After Jim’s father dies, he is forced to leave his home in the misty mountains by the mountain men who say he must earn his right to live there among them. Jim leaves the mountains and goes to work for a wealthy rancher and falls in love with the rancher’s head-strong daughter, Jessica. When the rancher’s expensive new horse escapes to run with the wild horses, Jim must leave the ranch and go back to the mountains to prove his worth and find the horse as only a true mountain man can.
Overboard (1987) – Kurt Russell, Goldie Hawn
Joanna is rich and spoiled. Dean is a struggling carpenter and widower with 4 wild young sons. Of course they hate each other. But when Joanna falls off her rich yacht and ends up a Jane Doe with no ID and amnesia and her husband does not claim her, Dean decides to have a little fun and claim that she is his wife and mother to his boys. Not knowing who she is and definitely feeling like a fish out of water, Joanna must learn to contend with Dean’s wild household. When the truth comes out, lessons are learned on both sides and neither is the same. Cute, sweet, and fun.
The Princess Bride (1987) – Cary Elwes, Robin Wright Penn
Another all-time favourite about a girl who is engaged to an evil prince…but is in love with someone else whom she believes to be dead. Duels, pirates, giants, murder, adventure, and love….are among the many things that make this movie fun. It’s a satire but done so well.
Roxanne (1987) – Steve Martin, Daryl Hannah
Steve Martin takes a shot at being a modern day Cyrano de Bergerac. Feeling his large nose will prove him unsuitable as a suitor to a beautiful woman, a man writes poetry and has another man, handsome but dumb, to take his place using the poetry to woo her.
Sweet Home Alabama (2002) – Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas
Melanie couldn’t wait to leave Alabama and her red-neck husband she married just out of high school. Escaping to New York she becomes a successful fashion designer and falls in love with the mayor’s son. But before she can get married, she must return to Alabama to divorce her husband…..whom her fiancée knows nothing about. Confronting her past, she realizes that her past is not so easily discarded as she thought it would be.
Titanic (1987) – Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet
Has anyone not seen this? Aboard the fated Titanic, Jack meets Rose despite the separate of classes aboard the vessel. Jack is poor and traveling in the lower class cabins. Rose is a society girl who is engaged to a rich snob only so she can take care of her mother as she has no other family to take care of them. Jack and Rose strike up a friendship which turns to passion to the anger of her fiancee. Then the ship hits the iceberg….and threatens to doom them all as they all continue to battle each other and fight for survival.
THE END!!
