QotD: Worst. Hairstyle. Ever.
What was your worst hairstyle decision ever?
I don't know if this counts or not since it wasn't really my fault....
Here is what happened:
Growing up I wasn't allowed to cut my hair short so I had really long hair. And since my older sister (by 9 years) didn't like bangs when she was younger, my mom didn't give me bangs and wouldn't give them to me, eventhough I wanted them. (don't you love how these decisions are made?) However, when I was about 14 or 15, my sister suddenly came back from a Cali trip with bangs and so my mom decided to let me have bangs. (once again, don't you love how these decisions are made!) Unfortunately, since I was living at home, my mom was the designated hairdresser. So she pulled out her hair cutting scissors and went to work. Well....I have super thick, wavy/curly hair and she couldn't get the bangs even so she kept trying to even it out and kept cutting shorter and shorter.....until I had these little tufts for bangs. My sister laughed and laughed and still reminds me, to this day, of that. (thanks, Sis!) (and thankfully after this, my mom decided to let me go to a professional for my hair)
(* in case you are thinking my sister is mean, the main reason she laughed so hard is that is what she went through with her bangs when she was in grade school and why she ended up hating having bangs. We both have thick thick hair which is hard to cut. There is a picture somewhere of her and I right after my mom cut my tufty bangs but I don't know where it is and I am not in a any rush to find it.)
Other than that, I don't really don't have any other mistakes. That one experience made me leery of making hair mistakes that you have to live with, especially since I have very difficult hair. And having long hair growing up, and not being allowed to cut it, made me creative in doing lots of different hairstyles without the need for cutting. Over the years my hair has been every different kind of length - multiple times and they were all fun and looked good. I have tried a couple of different colours as well and they always worked well. And I have always found and been loyal to good stylists who knew how to cut my difficult hair, cut it well, and also helped me with cuts that suited me. Being aware that my hair was "different" than most helped temper me from all the wierd and wonderful trends of the moment because I knew that they would never work on my hair.
To me, good hair decisions are crucial since you can't just change your hairstyle like you change your clothes.

Ooooh, I've had the short tufty bangs. Well, not so much tufty with my straight hair but the freakishly short bangs that couldn't be cut straight. It's so horrible.
aren't they are just horrible!!
haha! I remember at that time I was so thankful to get them that it didn't quite sink in right away. It took a day or 2 and then I was really depressed. But thankfully my hair grows fast!
ick! just think of me with shoulder length hair, twice as thicker as it is now, with no layering or style, and short tufty bangs sticking out like straw! eeeeeek!!! (I was already an outcast at school so I had no worries about anyone caring....hahaha!)
