Battle of the covers: Landslide

I like the Dixie Chicks version.

And I like pretty much every cover of a Bob Dylan song I've heard more than the originals. I love his lyrics, but I can't get past his voice.

Yes, I know that's heresy.

Hiya...Fun game! I like all those musicians but gotta go with Fleetwood Mac!! It's Stevie Nicks voice that I associate with that song.

I have to go with the Dixie Chicks on this one....their version makes me want to tap my foot or sing along or something!!..it just gets my attention much more than the others..

I love the harmony they've added!!

Fleetwood Mac definitely
although the Smashing Pumpkins are not bad, I was a fan in high school
[this is good]

My order: SP, FM, DC

And here is why...

First, I think the levels on the SP song are the best. Also, I think I digg the subtle stylistic choices of the SP song and instrumentation (it is much less twangy and country/folksy sounding). Also, I feel a lot more emotion expressed by Corrigan. I hear more *hurt* and *doubt*. The others are singing it, and singing it well ... but to me, Corrigan is *feeling* it and singing about it.

Finally, I think that I can identify more with a male voice.

Got to go with the original, with Stevie Nicks, laying down some sweet vocals. And Christine, Mick, John & Lindsey setting a great stage for the "Magic" of this song. Thanks for sharing -

No, really, this is like, my FAVORITEST song! I like the original Fleetwood Mac version the best. Additionally, I like the Tori Amos version too:

Ok. With that, Im putting TA at #2. Again, because of stylistic choices, and *how* its sung.

First off I have to say this song (especially the lyrics) is so powerful to me. At this midlife stage (is 40 midlife, or is 40 the new 30?) in particular, it really hits home. Excuse me, after hearing that song four times, I need a tissue...

But I really got chills when I checked out the Tori Amos version. Could it be that it was video performance, so I could see her expression? Maybe that wasn't a fair comparison? I should have listened with my eyes closed. Still, I agree with jayd. I'd rank SP first, TA second, and FM third. Can't help it...Billy Corrigan sings with such raw emotion, it just hits me a little deeper than the others.

I am glad you liked it. I hadn't heard the SP version before. I like it!
I am glad you liked the TA version. I identify with this song too (I am 32). I remember my father when I listen to this song :-)
heresy? nah...not to me. I have issues with Dylan's voice, too. I have to be in the right mood for him (aka drunk)....although a few of his songs work well with his voice. Its all good! :)
I know I know....I love Steve Nick's voice. I like this live version better than the album version because her voice sounds so much better. Her voice gives me chills sometimes. :)
I know....I totally love the harmony they added. It adds a twangier dimension to their version. I like it, too.

Thanks Cactina for adding in the Tori Amos version. I was not familiar or aware of her version. Her version is very haunting....

The Tori Amos version is my favourite of that song... Absolutely gorgeous.
Me too! I love her voice. Whenever you hear it, you know it's her. There are just no substitutions!
